Before a screening

The event information should explain the available checks, eligibility, date, location, cost or free entry, and any preparation required. Tell the screening professional about relevant medicines, pregnancy, symptoms, or previous results when asked.

  • Confirm that qualified and authorised personnel are providing the service.
  • Ask whether fasting, rest, or another preparation is required.
  • Do not stop prescribed medicine unless a qualified provider has advised it.
  • Bring previous results or referral notes when they are relevant.

During the screening

You should receive an explanation of the procedure and have the opportunity to ask questions. Participation should be informed and voluntary. Personal information and results should be handled privately.

A single measurement can be affected by timing, equipment, preparation, stress, recent activity, or other factors. Repeat measurement or further assessment may be needed.

After receiving a result

Ask what the result means, whether it falls within the expected range used by the provider, and what next step is recommended. A result marked “normal” does not rule out every health problem, especially when symptoms are present. A result outside an expected range is not automatically a diagnosis.

Referral and follow-up matter

The value of screening depends on what happens next. Keep the result, note the referral location, and seek further assessment within the recommended time. Urgent symptoms should be assessed promptly even when a recent screening result appeared normal.
